DNS
DNS > What is DNS
- browser / OS caches IP addresses to avoid asking root servers on return visits to same site
- nameservers resolve to your hosting (ns1.domain-name.com, ns2.domain-name.com)
- glue records
name resolving
A DNS resolver is known by many names, some of which are listed below. They all refer to the same thing.
- full resolver (in contrast to stub resolver)
- DNS recursor
- recursive DNS server
- recursive resolver
TTL
In that case, you’d definitely want to keep the TTL on the higher side to conserve bandwidth and reduce load on your DNS servers. Something like 24 hours (86,400 seconds) is pretty standard and works well for small, low-traffic sites. It means changes will take a bit longer to propagate, but it’s a good trade-off for efficiency and stability.
