What is a Skill Gap

school vs job

many top performers don't have all the skills listed in the job description

A skill gap refers to the discrepancy or mismatch between the skills and competencies possessed by individuals and those that are required or expected in a particular job or industry. It represents the difference between the skills that workers possess and the skills that are in demand in the labor market. In other words, it is the disparity between the skills individuals have and the skills that employers need.

A skill gap can occur for various reasons. Technological advancements, changes in the economy, evolving job roles, and industry-specific requirements can lead to new skill requirements or render existing skills obsolete. If individuals lack the necessary skills to meet these changing demands, a skill gap arises.

Skill gaps can exist at various levels, including individual, organizational, and societal levels. At the individual level, a person may lack specific skills or knowledge needed to perform a particular job or task effectively. At the organizational level, a company or industry may struggle to find qualified workers with the required skills. At the societal level, a broader gap can emerge between the skills possessed by the workforce and the skills needed to drive economic growth and development.

Identifying and addressing skill gaps is crucial for individuals, businesses, and governments. Bridging skill gaps often involves initiatives such as education and training programs, professional development opportunities, apprenticeships, and reskilling or upskilling efforts aimed at equipping individuals with the necessary skills to meet current and future workforce demands.

2 days a week to check-in meeting with each department. (Tech, design, marketing/sales) meetings can be short if tasks are getting done. Just update the team about your current tasks. If you’re stuck and wanna screen share your progress/errors the meeting can go longer.

This is for all aspiring developers who want to learn programming without getting stuck and wasting time:

You probably experienced one of these situations …

➡️ not knowing where and how to start your programming journey…

➡️ feeling overwhelmed with all the partly contradictory information out there...

➡️ watching hours of online tutorials without gaining real knowledge...

If you identify with one of these points, I can put your mind at ease, most aspiring programmers feel the same way! There are a lot of like-minded people out there who network with each other and exchange ideas on how to solve exactly these problems. Many of them have already overcome the obstacles that might still be in your way. And some of them are currently actively looking for solutions...

If this sounds interesting to you, then I invite you to join our coaching group, where you will meet people who support each other and are on the same path as you.

We are constantly answering questions about programming, celebrating new achievements and having a lot of fun along the way. And of course, all this is free of charge.
